I don’t know about you, but I really love me some Aurora Teagarden! It’s not just because she bought that gorgeous farmhouse…..but it helps. I enjoy seeing that farmhouse in each movie from this series, and I especially loved seeing so much of the interior in the last installment, A Bundle of Trouble. Today, I want to talk about another location that has popped up in this franchise and that would be the Clayburn Schoolhouse, which plays the meeting hall for the Real Murders Club.
The Clayburn Schoolhouse is located in the small historic village of Clayburn, within the city of Abbotsford, BC. Clayburn was built in 1905 as the first “company town” in British Columbia by the Clayburn Company. The Clayburn Company was a producer of bricks made of high grade clay, and they were in great demand at that time. Over the years, the brick plant moved from the village to Abbotsford proper and remained there until permanently closing its doors in 2011. The Clayburn Company bricks were used to construct buildings in Clayburn Village, some of which still stand today. The only thing that remains of the original brick plant is the foundation. Several buildings in the village have survived, including the Clayburn Schoolhouse, which was built in 1907. It is on the register of Canada’s Historic sites.
I first spotted this location in the Aurora Teagarden movie, Real Murders Club. Since then, it has shown up in the following films of the franchise: Three Bedrooms, One Corpse; The Julius House; and Dead Over Heels. It looks exactly as it did on screen, which I am always happy to report!
The day I visited the schoolhouse, it had been rented out for a wedding party. Most of the guests were outside, and I stood at the door of the building to snap some photos of the interior.
I wanted to see it in person and verify that the interior had been used for filming, which it had. It is a lovely space, bright in color, with large windows that were open the day I was there. Because of the wedding reception, I did not go into the building and I really wanted to see the kitchen that was used in Real Murders Club, where Ro receives a phone call before the club meeting begins. In the screenshot below, you can see the kitchen door that is open.
While I would like to go back and see the building again and be able to walk around the interior, it could be difficult as it is rented out every weekend for events, the majority of which are weddings. However, I did find out that in the basement of the schoolhouse is a museum, rich with history of the village. I plan to look into booking a tour because after researching and spending time in Clayburn, it has certainly piqued my interest. Stay tuned because I will have other stories from Clayburn Village as this area is no stranger to Hallmark movie-making. Trust me, if you are a regular viewer of Hallmark, you’ve scene it!
The Clayburn Schoolhouse is located at 4315 Wright Street in Abbotsford. It is available to rent as a wedding venue or perhaps your own Real Murders Club meeting. Complimentary walking tour brochures are available at the interpretive signs located at Clayburn Road Park.

I love the Aurora movies, too! It’s so nice when a location is used – inside and out! That is so fun to know, as it makes the story seem more real. It’s also interesting to see little details they changed, or added, like the American flag on the front, covering the chalk boards, and the many floor lamps in the corner, etc…
How very Aurora of you – to snap a few shots during the reception, but I totally understand not intruding on their event. Those who saw you probably just thought you were another wedding photographer and thought nothing of it!!! 🙂
By the way… I’m super excited to know a new Aurora is coming in January!!! Can’t wait to see what locations are used for this one!
Thank you for sharing this fun visit! Can’t wait to see the next one!
Blessings, Net

Hi Net! I hope they use the farmhouse and this location for the next movie. And of course some new locations for me to find!!! Its such a fun series…….I wonder if Ro and Lynn will ever be friends….lol! It is always fun to see these locations in person and see what they change and how they change it. Was at a location last weekend and was using my eagle eye looking around the place….lol.

Mac Page
Not to be nitpicky but it’s The Real MURDERS Club, not MURDERERS. I used to be an editor for an author so I notice stuff like this. Sorry!
Kerry
Mac, no need to apologize. I am NOT an editor so I thank you for pointing this out. I have made the proper corrections. 🙂

I like the show too! Too bad it’s not a real Club, I’d love to attend one of the meetings. Especially if they’re talking about an Agatha Christie book! One question that always bothered me, why are there so many lamps in the meeting room? If they want to make it feel cozy like you’re reading a book at home, there should be an armchair and table with the lamp!
Kerry
Thanks for your comment Donna. Wouldn’t that be cool if it was a real club????? As far as the lamps, it could be that there is poor lighting in the location. But I agree, a cozier feel would be a dimmer room.
