As I have mentioned before, I have summers off from work, a major perk of working for the school district. And last summer, I used my time very wisely and made the trek up to BC a few times a week. I photographed locations and conducted interviews, some of which I have yet to share. Today’s post is one of them. In August, I had the privilege of spending some time at the Maple Ridge Florist. C’mon, let me tell you all about it!
During the summer of 2018, I spent an afternoon in Maple Ridge with my friend, Janelle. While wandering around the 224th Street area, I dropped by the Maple Ridge Florist to introduce myself and see if I could set up an interview. Within days, the owner and I connected and set a date. I was pretty excited because Maple Ridge is such a popular filming area and I learned that the florist had appeared in several Hallmark movies, which of course piqued my interest. My #1 question when I stopped in the first time???? Is this the florist from The Art of Us? And I am enthusiastically tickled pink to tell you that it IS the very florist from the movie! And although it only played a supporting role in the film, for some reason, this location really stayed with me and I found myself determined to locate it….at some point, of course.
The Maple Ridge Florist has been around since 1946, which is remarkable when you think about it. I mean, what a beautiful thing to be able to re-visit the florist who created your wedding flowers, prom corsage, or first flowers from your sweetheart. And that is something that makes this business so special. Because to many, they are a lovely walk down memory lane. With years of experience under her belt, Shelli Kiselycia took over the florist 7 years ago and the business is alive and thriving. As you will see in my photos, gorgeous handcrafted floral arrangements are displayed around the store, including vibrant hues of the fullest hydrangeas I’ve ever seen.
And the store is stocked with delightful gifts, all presented tastefully throughout. Personally, I loved the coastal themed items, including this Beach Ave sign I am still lusting after.
Janelle purchased a darling little aqua-blue ceramic pick-up truck…..SO, so cute!!!
I loved meeting with Shelli because her enthusiasm about filming matched mine perfectly! Although she hasn’t seen all of the Hallmark movies her shop has appeared in, she totally gets the excitement over it and loves the filming process, making her very easy to talk to. She always advertises any filming on Instagram and acts as Film Liaison during production.
Shelli awed me with stories about filming and when I asked her about a favorite memory or story, she shared two!!! First, she was an extra in Signed, Sealed, Delivered: To the Altar. And although she didn’t make the final cut, it was a great memory for her, posing as a shopper of all things, in her own store. How fun is that? Another memory was the time that Alison Sweeney came into her shop, not to film, but as a customer. Shelli recognized her and remembers the encounter well. Isn’t that SO cool?!?!
Shelli got her start after a location scout dropped by her store and has racked up a nice resume of movies. She and her staff love watching for the movies, which aren’t always available in Canada. We’ve scene the Maple Ridge Florist in several movies, including Hallmark’s The Art of Us, I Do, I Do, I Do, My Favorite Wedding, SSD: To the Altar, Yes, I Do, and PixL’s Mechanics of Love. Shelli recalled another movie featuring Lily of the Valley, a farm, and two sisters. I remembered a movie I’d seen years ago called The Bouquet, which fit the bill, but I did not spot the florist in the movie after a re-watch. It’s possible the footage was cut but I am wondering if maybe they created the flowers we saw in the movie?
Speaking of Mechanics of Love, this movie aired on PixL a couple of years ago but I only discovered it while researching for this story. (Thanks Shelli!) I really loved this one, partly because it stars Shenae Grimes-Beech and Tyler Hynes and partly because it was filmed in BC. Of course I enjoyed the story-line too. I was able to watch it on Amazon Prime with a free one week trial to PixL. And after the trial, it is only $1.99 a month! NOTE: I was unable to include screen shots from I Do, I Do, I Do because I do not have it saved on my DVR and it was not available to watch on Hallmark Now or Amazon.
Wanna buy the movies? Please consider making your purchase through the links below. You always pay the same price and I earn a few cents commission, which directly helps to offset the cost of this website. Thank you!
My thanks and appreciation to Shelli and her crew for your time and for the warm welcome. You are all just lovely!!!
Maple Ridge Florist is located at 22530 Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge, BC. They are open Monday thru Saturday and closed on Sunday. If you happen to live in BC or close to the border, I highly recommend you save-the-date for the florists annual Christmas Open House, held in late November, early December. I went this last holiday season and it was spectacular! Shelli and the crew spend a week setting up all the displays so the place looks even more amazing, and includes beautifully decorated cookies to snack on while you shop. THANK YOU 200K TIMES!
Traffic here on the website has remained very steady and January was my second busiest month of all-time! As of yesterday, I have had over 200,000 views and could not have done it without your support. It thrills me to know that SO many people are interested in filming locations and that I can share my discoveries here with you all. I realize I have not posted much over the last couple months and I fell behind on my emails too. Like everyone else, I was busy during the holiday season, which included a fabulous week in Arizona. But I admit that I have been a bit distracted with life lately, which is why I have not published for awhile. I am fine and so is my family. But I am reminded often that there are many who are going through difficult times.
Thank you so much for your continued interest and support of this website. I will be back soon with an all new Hallmark film location.

Lovely Florist! Maple Ridge seems a lovely place to live. One of my favourite Christmas movie is Battle of The Bulbs which I know was filmed in Maple Ridge. I googled earthed the address used for the film and sure enough I recognised the street and houses. I have driven from Vancouver to Calgary on a Rocky Mountain venture years ago and didn’t realise this area is such a hub for movie making. If ever go again, I’ll be sure to make a stop in the Maple Ridge area and check it out.

Hi Carole, yes, this is the same Maple Ridge from your fave movie! And it is filled with gorgeous neighborhoods, both old and new. When I spent my first afternoon there, I was in such film location overload, I didn’t know where to look first because I recognized so many places all at once!!! I started on the busy 224th Street. That is so cool that you were able to locate the house from your fave movie and “see” it on Google Street view!!! (Best creation ever!) Check out 11952 224th street in Maple Ridge and stroll up & down the street. This is one of THE most popular areas to film in Maple Ridge! Hallmark and Lifetime fans will recognize it from the many, many movies that have filmed there. 🙂

Thanks so much Debbie! I really appreciate your kind and supporting words. I’m glad you enjoyed this look at Maple Ridge and my peek inside this popular florist. And I agree, it is neat to hear about film experiences through the eye of the business owners. Thanks for your comment and don’t worry, I will be back!!! 🙂

Great post, Kerry! The flowers in your photos look gorgeous, I bet they look fantastic in person! Speaking of Hallmark movies, I have an awards on my blog called the Gold Sally Awards. It is a series of polls where all the nominations are Hallmark movie related. If you want, you can spread the word about the awards or participate in the voting process. Here’s the link to the first two polls:

I’m brand new to this site,, but have just loved the information that you sharing. I took your advice and watched “Mechanics of Love” and loved it!! I’m a fan of Tyler’s from his recent Hallmark movies so it was so great to see him in something else. I have never been to BC.. live in the Chicago area so it’s so fun to follow you adventures. Thanks!
Kerry
Hi Karen and welcome!!! I am so glad you watched Mechanics of Love……wasn’t it so great???? I had never heard of it before I met the owner of the florist. Such a cute story!!! I have already located the garage, coffee shop and bar from the movie……the bar has been in a few other movies and I recognized it early on in the film. The coffee shop is actually another section of the bar. You should plan a trip to BC. Summer or fall is a perfect time to come!!! Thank you so much for your support.
🙂

In a separate post, you were wondering why the color of Shannon house (from Garage Sale Mystery) sometimes looks gray and at other times beige. I see the same thing in the photos above, comparing the inside of the flower shop in the movies “My favorite wedding” and “Yes I do.” Notice how the counter top on the left side of the screen looks beige in the former film and gray in the latter film. I suspect this is due to various color filters being used by the filmmakers, changing the look of a house or the inside of a flower shop.
Kerry
Hi Mark! Thanks for your comment. I would have to agree with you. I have the same issue with some cabinets in my house. They color looks one way in every photograph/video. And in person, they look totally different! It was very eye opening when we purchased the house because we found the place in an online listing. I was less than thrilled with the color of the cabs. But after seeing them in person, I can live with them….at least for now. LOL. Light and filters have a lot to do with it, that is for sure!!! 🙂
