Greetings fellow Hallmark fans! I am enjoying the weekend by baking holiday cheesecakes to give away to friends, neighbors, and co-workers. My hubs is a huge help with this and together we make a great team. It’s just like we are back in our old bakery again, but on a much smaller scale. We are known for our cheesecakes and I always say, there are worse things to be known for! I figured I would try and get another post done in between bakings. So, here we go!
Today we are going to look at another Christmas film location from a popular Hallmark movie series. This one is from the last movie in the Father Christmas franchise, which includes: Finding Father Christmas, Engaging Father Christmas, and Marrying Father Christmas. This movie series is based on the books by author Robin Jones Gunn. From Hallmark:
“When Miranda Chester (Erin Krakow) set off to find information on her biological father two Christmases ago, she never imagined that her investigation would lead her to both the family she had always longed for and Ian McAndrick (Niall Matter), the love of her life. After her romantic engagement last Christmas, Miranda prepares to marry Ian this Christmas surrounded by his family and her new family, the Whitcombs.”
I wrote here about meeting the talented director David Winning, and leads Erin Krakow and Niall Matter, during the filming of Marrying Father Christmas.
And what a great memory that was!!! Over the past year, I have had many email requests for me to feature Rose Cottage on my blog so without further ado, I present to you, Rose Cottage.
On a fairly busy street sits this lovely two-story craftsman home. When I arrived, I immediately recognized this one, but was taken aback by the real-life location of the house. When I began researching though, it made sense, as this home is registered as one of Canada’s historic places. It was built in the early 1900’s and once upon a time, there was nothing else anywhere around it. But that is not the case now.
I found it ironic that when I did a Google Street View of this property, there was a film production using the property!
Of course, I wondered if this was from the filming of Marrying Father Christmas but the photos I took on set were from March, 2018. The Google Street View pictures are from May, 2018. So, someone else was filming there too!!! Not so shocking though, as we can all agree that this home is a charmer!
Take a moment to study the screen shots and photos. As you can see in the screen shots I captured, the bench we see on the porch in the movie is there in real-life.
Unlike the movie, the home is only set back a bit from the road, not on a remote property, as we are led to believe on screen. Isn’t that incredible???? It looks totally different in the movies!!! I reached out to director David Winning to ask him a couple of questions regarding filming. David confirmed that CGI (computer-generated imagery) was used to create the look we saw in the film and the interiors of the residence were used to film the wedding scenes. I’d love to get a peek at the inside of this property!!!

Hi, Kerry.
I love reading your comments on all the Hallmark movies. It is so exciting where do many of these take place. Would love to visit the area some day.

Hi, Kerry,
When you talk about baking your cheesecake, I start drooling! On Christmas Eve, I was telling my grandson about your amazing cheesecake at Patricia and Paul’s wedding (Causland Park August 1998).
It was good to see you when I was at lunch with my dad recently.
Your blog is a treat for my imagination. Watching the movies and reading the books takes me away, and your blog helps me understand more of the process and people involved.
Thank you and keep it coming! Happy New Year to you and your family.

Hi Cathy! Thanks so much for your sweet comment. And yes, I do remember the wedding and cheesecakes we did for the wedding so many years ago. 🙂 Great to see you the other night as well……you know, you haven’t lost that great sense of humor you have!!! Funny as always.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. SO glad you are enjoying the movies & books. Do you watch When Calls the Heart? If so, you should consider a tour at the property where it is filmed. You would LOVE it! Maybe plan a day with a group from church???
Happy 2020 to you & yours……hope to see you again soon!
Kerry:)
