This week’s location brings us right back to the neighborhood I wrote about last week; Fort Langley. I realize I have written several times about this area, but the truth is, the fort is a very popular filming area. And not just in the Hallmark world but filming in general. The storefronts delight as they stand in as Anytown, USA, as do the charming houses. Here you can find large working farms, craftsman bungalows, new construction, old homes, and everything in between. The camera loves it here…and so do I!
Just across the street from the Blacksmith Bakery, which I featured last week, sits the building that stood in as Perfect Weddings by Hampton in Hallmarks For Better or For Worse. The movie is based on the book by Diann Hunt. From Hallmark:
Opposites attract when Wendy (Lisa Whelchel), a wedding coordinator, and Marco (Antonio Cupo), a divorce attorney, find their lives suddenly intertwined. Wendy is finally settling into the single life after struggling with the death of her husband. After a difficult season of grief, she’s taken over the family business of coordinating the town’s most beautiful and memorable weddings with the help of her friend and co-worker Roseanne (Kim Fields). Wendy’s business and values are challenged, however, when the charming and incredibly irritating Marco opens shop as a divorce attorney right next to her wedding chapel. Although Wendy will stop at nothing to promote her marriage business over Marco’s divorce business, she must form an alliance with Marco after her son Collin (Edward Ruttle) announces his unexpected engagement to Marco’s daughter Sophia (Alicia Josipovic). As Wendy grows closer to Marco, she begins to realize that if she shields herself from the pain of love lost, she may prevent herself from experiencing true love in the future. Will Wendy open up to a second chance at love?
The building is called The Village Square and is comprised of several retail suites. In the movie, Perfect Weddings was in one suite and the law office were directly next door in another. In real life, it is all one large space, currently occupied by Sweetgrass Naturals, a health food and skincare store. I did some digging online and discovered that at one time, it used to be a wedding boutique called Ivory Bridal. But the shop closed its doors in 2015 and became an online store, which has since closed up shop. I was disappointed because I would have loved to have talked to Ivory Bridal for this story. I did find some set photos on their Facebook page, taken during the filming of For Better or For Worse. And trust me, they are like gold to someone like me! I love taking a look behind the scenes and seeing how the magic is made!
I spoke to the owner of Sweetgrass Naturals and she allowed me to snap photos of the interior of her shop, which is still painted the same color as when filming took place. I also noticed the darling chandeliers are still there too! I love that!!! I’m posting some of the photos I took but I was unable to capture screen shots because the camera angles were too close up to show any of the shop. Isn’t it a cute space???
She also tipped me off that the building itself was used quite frequently in Cedar Cove. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I have been re-watching the series with fresh eyes and I have scene The Village Square building pop up often in the first two seasons. I will be sure and feature it in a future post.
Several months ago, while researching for my story on The Wedding March, I came across this behind-the-scenes video. In the clip, Jack Wagner and Josie Bissett filmed a scene directly in front of Sweetgrass Naturals. You can see the awning as well as the SGN logo. I recognized it immediately and if you watch the very short video, you will also see the building with the benches across the street from the Blacksmith Bakery, the ones I referred to in my post last week. Crazy, huh! Now you see what I mean about this area. It’s a hot-spot for Hallmark filming.
Just a minute or two away you can find another location from the movie, the house where Lisa Whelchel’s character, Wendy, lives. This home totally caught my eye on screen. Can I just say, I love everything about it!!!
The beautiful color, the inviting front porch, the large windows, the schoolhouse porch lights, the manicured landscaping, the curved cement path leading to the front steps, and especially those darling shutters on the second floor window! Too. Cute. I could easily picture myself living here. Its walking distance to all the action in a great neighborhood. Its the total package! The inside of this home was also used in filming and I love the white kitchen!!!

What a fun town. So pretty and full of architecture. Wendy’s house looks a lot like mine!
