It’s June Weddings time at the Hallmark Channel and in honor of all the new marriage movies airing this month, I decided to keep with the theme and feature a location from a favorite of mine, The Convenient Groom. This one was directed by the talented David Winning, who is a personal fave. (the man can sure tell a story!) As a longtime fan of Vanessa Marcil (original 90210 anyone?), I loved her in this movie and thought she and her co-star, David Sutcliffe, were great together. I enjoyed the whole “opposites attract” thing that was going on and found the ending very sweet. From Hallmark:
“Dr. Kate Lawrence, a celebrity relationship expert, plans to publicly announce her engagement to Bryan, a handsome and perfectly polished businessman. As Kate prepares to share the news, Bryan shocks her by breaking up with her and calling off the wedding. Wanting to save her from humiliation and protect her public image, Lucas Wright, Kate’s childhood friend steps in and pretends to be Kate’s fiancé”.
I recently re-watched this one and was thrilled to recognize Deep Cove as one of the locations. I wrote about Deep Cove here and included some fantastic photos of this beautiful area.
Fort Langley popped up in the movie as well and it was there that I tracked down Dr. Kate’s house.
According to website Property Insight, this two-story corner lot home has 4 bedrooms, 4 baths, and 3300 square feet. We saw the house show up a few times throughout the film and although I looked around online, I could not find any interiors pictures of the property. But I would be willing to bet the interiors were indeed used in filming. Why pay for another space when you’ve already paid for one?
The home is literally down the street from the Summer of Dreams house, which I wrote about here and The Perfect Bride house, which I wrote about here. Speaking of The Perfect Bride, I cannot wait to see the sequel this weekend because I am dying to know if they used the same house again! (and I’m pretty sure they did!!!) I drove by recently and it had new mulch and an assortment of pretty flowers, very spruced up I’d say, and I know the movie had just wrapped. You can bet I will be on the lookout!!!
Another location we saw in The Convenient Groom…and that we’ve scene on Hallmark before…is a darling little store in the fort called Pomp Go Be Pretty. It is located right next to the Village Antiques Mall (you know, the one with the red sleigh) that I wrote about last week in my ‘Look Back at Cedar Cove’ story here.
I’ve scene Pomp before, in last year’s Harvest Wedding, and it has been in the background of several other Hallmark movies filmed in Fort Langley. (no surprise there!) But in Convenient Groom, they also filmed inside the shop.
When I stopped by last year to take some photos and ask about filming, the salesgirl wasn’t even aware the store had been in a movie. This is ALWAYS shocking to me, especially in the fort where filming is a practically daily occurrence. I will never understand how some people are so unfazed by it, although I guess it is just the norm in Fort Langley so perhaps you really do get used to it. But I just don’t see myself in that camp. I still get giddy when I run across an upcoming film notice and heaven help me when I drive past an active circus!!! (Remember Aurora Teagarden???)
Pomp is a charming store, filled with apparel, jewelry, and super-cute home décor. And just look at those little chandeliers hanging from the ceiling!!! LOVE em’!!!
And you will notice the corner armoire is the same one that was used in filming!!!
I recently discovered that it is the sister store of another popular shop in Fort Langley, The Little White House & Co. I’ve been wanting to go to afternoon tea there and it looks like the perfect spot to indulge. Pomp is located at 23325 Mavis Ave in Fort Langley. The Little White House & Co can be found at 9090 Glover Road in Fort Langley. Be sure and tell them you’ve scene it on Hallmark.
One last location I would like to point out is that of the waterfront hotel, which was featured throughout The Convenient Groom. Just as we saw on screen, it is called the Prestige Hotel and it is located in Sooke, B.C., outside the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island. I am hoping to get over to the island this summer and check it out, along with a long list of locations that I’ve scene over the years. Vancouver Island has become a very hot area for filming and they even have their own studio now! Chesapeake Shores films there and movies like Bridal Wave, Lucky Number Seven, and Fixer Upper Mysteries were shot there too. I really hope I can plan a trip over there in the next couple months.

I’m always amazed, Kerry, at all the wonderful locations you discover and visit! Kate’s house from “The Convenient Groom” is grand and lovely! I also loved the pictures from inside the shop and seeing the differences between real life and filming. I would be just as giddy as you are – seeing all of these wonderful film locations in person!
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the new movies! Blessings, Net
Kerry
Aw, thanks Net! As you know, I do love the thrill of the hunt!!! I am really looking forward to this summer and many trips north. I’ve got some great interviews coming up at some locations we’ve scene and filming is constant right now in Canada.
So happy you enjoyed this post and a peek inside the shop. I think you need to plan a trip to Vancouver…..and let me be your guide! 🙂

The roof top where kate and Lucas had lunch with the wright family
Kerry
Wish I knew where it was but I do not. But it is a lovely location!!! If I track it down, I will let you know. 🙂
Sharon
Deep Cove was also the filming location for “When Sparks Fly” featuring Meghan Markle. The Peterson’s farm was located in Aldergrove, B.C. (also used in the filming of Garage Sale Mystery: Guilty Until Proven Innocent) Sandra’s farm.
Kerry
Sharon, thanks for your comment. Yes, When Sparks Fly was shot at Deep Cove. I will be featuring a story on the Peterson’s farm very soon…..working on it now. 🙂
