Hello fellow Hallmark fans! I have had an incredibly busy week. So much so that I didn’t put together a location for this week. But then a funny thing happened…..I got an email today, inviting me to be a guest on a podcast! Yup, me, an invited guest on a podcast. (I know, I’m still in shock myself) And as if that wasn’t enough, 20 minutes ago, I received the sweetest comment on my blog from Shannon H. Shannon, I promise to respond tomorrow.
To be honest, I often wonder if anyone really reads this blog. (I think these are normal thoughts that many bloggers experience) But after the invite and comment today, I really WANTED to put a little post together, despite my exhaustion and writing it on the fly. Thankfully I have a backlog of photographs, so I chose a location from one of my favorite Hallmark movies of 2017; The Perfect Catch. I believe I have mentioned a time or two that I am a fan of Hallmark hottie, Andrew Walker. And I loved him in this movie!!! From Hallmark:
“When her high school boyfriend, a superstar baseball player, returns to town, a single-parent finds the inspiration to reinvent her struggling diner… and revisits the past to find something even better for the future.”
I wrote about Porter’s, which was used as the diner in The Perfect Catch, and you can read about it here. And I will be featuring some other key locations in future posts but today, lets focus on a scene towards the end of the movie. Chase, played by Andrew Walker, drives to a beautiful park to contemplate his future; staying in Parker Falls or taking a job in Los Angeles.
Of course, this park caught my eye. It appears only briefly in the movie but made quite an impact on me.
I could not wait to find it and tucked its image away in my memory. Fast forward. While doing some research several months ago, I came across Deer Lake Park, located in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby. (bet you thought I was going to say Langley…gotcha!) I recognized it immediately and planned a visit to check it out. Turns out it has appeared on screen before, which is really not so surprising given the visual surroundings. When I finally got to visit, look at how mystical and magical it looked!!! I’ve been to see it a couple times now and I am wanting to head back this summer to truly partake in its beauty.
Deer Lake Park is a picturesque treasure. Boasting 512 acres, it includes walking trails, picnic areas, a boat launch, playground, and swimming area.
Cultural activities include the Burnaby Art Gallery, Shadbolt Center for the Arts, and the Burnaby Village Museum, which I will be writing about in an upcoming post. For an up close and personal lake view, you can rent a pedal boat or canoe during the summer. And the park hosts outdoor concerts as well. It is a popular wedding venue too and the first time I visited, there was a wedding taking place. There are several historic homes around the park. You can find a PDF version of the walking tour and house specific history here.
So far, I have only scene Deer Lake Park in The Perfect Catch. Other non-Hallmark filming that has taken place there includes Bates Motel, The Butterfly Effect, It, The Day the Earth Stood Still, She’s the Man, and Final Destination. Deer Lake Park is located at 6450 Deer Lake Drive in Burnaby, BC.
Want to buy the movie? Please consider purchasing through the Amazon link below, which helps to support this website. Thanks!
Don’t forget to watch the all new Hallmark movie this Saturday night, Love Once and Always. Check local listings for time. I have an exciting Saturday planned, which will take me up to Canada. Hallmark Christmas movie filming kicked off this week and I’m told location scouts are making the rounds. Thank you for stopping by today! I will be back next week with an all new Hallmark location.

I knew I’d seen this park in “She’s the Man”!! It all clicked when you mentioned it. I have the movie on my Kindle & watched on my way to Germany last month? It’s a very cute movie.
I do enjoy your blog & it’s inspiring me to head to Canada again to explore! Keep the great photos & entries coming? You’re inspiring others to venture out & explore!
I’ll be standing by for your next posting!
Thank you again!

Kerry
Debbie, thanks so much for your sweet comment and support each week!!! I too, LOVED She’s the Man…..when I read part of it was filmed at Deer Lake I felt the urge to re-watch it. Maybe this weekend, we’ll see. You went to Germany last month??? Where? One day I will post about the time I went to the Willy Wonka factory gates in Munich!!! Let me know if you get back to Canada. I can help you plan locations or meet you up there and show you some!!! Thanks again for your support. 🙂
Deb
I read your blog and I love it! It always makes me want to go back and check out all of these places. I can’t wait for your story on the Burnaby Village Museum.
Kerry
Thanks Deb! I’m not sure when I will write about the Burnaby Village……may not be until Christmas. Or I may do it as a Christmas in July post. 🙂

I loved this–I have to say that opening picture reminds me of a scene in Cedar Cove. I think it’s the park bench that is reminiscent. But it probably not the same place. Just reminded me of it. Thank you for your dedication!
Kerry
Ruth, I do recall several scenes in CC that were shot on the bench overlooking the water. Those were filmed in Deep Cove. Once the weather turns, I plan on spending a day in Deep Cove searching for CC locations. 🙂
Cheryl
Hi Kerry, just found your blog yesterday and was so glad as hubby and I are headed to Vancouver in May. I am a Hallmark fan also and love the series type movies. I had already found out about WCTH (could not love it more?) tours so we are signed up for that but appreciate the other sights. In reading this post the building used for the wedding shop looks like Rags to Riches (Garage Sale Murders) and Wendy’s house reminds me of Grace’s house (Cedar Cove). Any info on these? Also the Inn from Moonlight in Vermont reminds of The Thyme and Tide (Cedar Cove) Any other places from Cedar Cove? Excited about finding The Cookie Jar! (Murder She Baked)
Thanks for all your info!!!
Kerry
Cheryl, I am so happy you found my site!!! Vancouver is a fun city and there is plenty to see and do. Have you been there before? As a WCTH fan, you will really enjoy the tour. It is such a novelty to be able to visit the Jamestown set. As far as Rags to Riches, I recently interviewed the owner of the real life antique shop, which is located in Ft Langley. I have not published this piece yet. The building the wedding shop was in was used quite often in Cedar Cove. I do not believe Wendy’s house is Graces from CC. My gut tells me Graces house IS located in Ft Langley and one of these days I will get serious and try and find it. But as of now, I do not know where it is. If I’ve learned anything about locations, its never to give up on finding one you’re interested in. I’m sure I will locate it at some point. I recently re-watched Cedar Cove and was beyond thrilled to discover the B & B in the second season was the Moonlight in VT house, which was also used in Garage Sale Mystery and Bramble House. I am currently working on a “look back at Cedar Cove” post. I wrote about Jacks house and Moons Place already. I will try and get my look back post done in April so you can visit some of the locations on your trip. Please reach out via email if you need any help with planning or locations. Thanks so much for your comment! 🙂
Kerry
Cheryl, I was up in Canada today and guess what? I saw Grace’s house from Cedar Cove! Wish I could say I was THAT GOOD at finding locations but to be honest, it was casually mentioned to me this afternoon, which is coincidental, don’t you think? As I guessed previously, it IS in fact located in Ft Langley….no surprises there. And I am happy to report that it looks exactly as I remember in CC!!!! Also, I am leading some of the tours at the WCTH Jamestown Movie Set. I know you said you are booked already so I just might be your guide! I was there all day today and we had a huge group! It was lots of fun. I cant wait for you to be able to see it in person. Feel free to email me anytime at Kerry@ivesceneitonhallmark.com 🙂
Cheryl
Kerry,
Thanks for the responses. So cool about Grace’s house being found! I thought is was such a pretty house, as all on CC. Look forward to getting to see these beautiful places. Will be staying in Deep Cove, because of the amazing views on CC. Too bad they don’t have a B&B at the Jamestown set and a crew to serve comfort food at Abigail’s. ❤️ (High tea after tours) ☕️ ??
Kerry
No prob! Please email me back and let me know if I can help some more. I want you to have an AMAZING visit while you’re in town. 🙂

This is so fun, Kerry! I’m so excited for all the fun things you are doing! Congrats on the podcast invite and everything! Your site is such a wonderful avenue to see an inside, behind-the-scenes look at Hallmark movies. What a beautiful park you featured here, I’m sure it is so lovely in person, as it is on screen!
Blessings to you, Net
Kerry
Thanks Net…….it is exciting to be asked. This is all so new to me and I’m having so much fun! This park truly is a hidden gem……cant wait to go back in the heat of the summer! 🙂
