At first glance, I wasn’t convinced Date With Love was a movie I would enjoy a whole lot, given the subject matter: high school prom. (that was forever ago for me) But this one had such a fantastic cast, I gave it a watch and ended up loving it!!! I mean, you cannot go wrong with the likes of Mr. Andrew Walker (swoon) and the lovely Shenae Grimes-Beech, or the incredibly gifted Bailee Madison. (she is absolutely ah-mazing in everything she does) And personally, I think this is my FAVE role of the oh-so-talented Andrea Brooks, who was crazy-good in this film and totally nailed her role of publicist and friend. From Hallmark:
“When a small-town boy’s video “promposal” to a star goes viral, it scores him a date to prom with his celebrity crush. But when the star begins to fall for the boy’s teacher, things get complicated”.
I have been out of high school for nearly four decades, so this movie was a real eye-opener for me. While writing this story, my curiosity got the best of me and I actually looked into the origin of the “promposal”, which I learned was first documented back in 2001. (what can I say…..inquiring minds want to know) Back in the late 70’s – early 80’s, you were simply asked to go to prom. There was no such thing as a “promposal”, we kept it simple while still keeping it real. (and I much prefer it that way) I mean, just being asked was stressful enough, without any of the pomp & circumstance that goes into these “promposals”. But we also didn’t have social media back then, documenting our every move, shining a spotlight on us. (thankfully!)
Alright, let’s talk locations. While set in the small town of Arlington Heights, Illinois, it is primarily Langley, B.C. that we see in this one. Thanks to my friends at What’s Filming, I learned that the Yorkson Creek Middle School was used as the high school.
I had a hunch that David’s house was somewhere in Langley and sure enough, I found it in the Murrayville area, close to my cousin’s place.
David’s house is in a beautifully manicured neighborhood of newer homes. The day I was there, I saw several people walking their dogs and noticed a little park close by. This is a family friendly street, lined with those tall black lantern street lights I adore so much, and it is obvious why it was chosen for production. I love David’s house, from the pitches in the roof and the darling window flower boxes, to the slightly curved windows and simple porch railing. And I really love that oval address plaque, so much so, I’m thinking of ordering one for my own house. As you can see, the home looks exactly as it did on screen and maybe even better, with the addition of those colorful hanging baskets above the porch. As I have mentioned here before, there is no Zillow in Canada so finding out details of a home can be tricky if it hasn’t been previously listed for sale. In the case of this home, there was no information available, so I do not know the size or age of this one.
It seems I am always on the prowl for ‘Hallmark houses’ so I have begun keeping screenshots of my ‘still looking for’ homes. I tell you this because it is significant in how I was able to scratch another two houses off my list with only one hunt. While searching for David’s house, I was looking very closely at my screenshots when the next-door neighbor’s white arbor and stone wall caught my eye. Although the view was at a weird angle, I recognized it and quickly pulled up the screenshot of another house…from another movie…and just like that, I found two houses for the time of one! (gotta love that!)
The neighboring home I mentioned was scene in Love By Chance. It played the home of Sam & Helen Michaels, parents of the female lead in this Hallmark movie. Again, there were no stats available online about this home, which I always find disappointing. I was drawn to so many features of this stately home including the shape of the black shutters, the curved windows and arches in between the porch columns, the stone work on the front of the house and the architectural knees, that appear to ‘hold up’ the window box and second floor. And I love the paint color! The front door is gorgeous, the porch inviting. In real life, there is no fountain in the front yard, like the one we saw in the movie and the large boxwood landscaping we saw leading up to the door is gone. Other than that, the place looks very much as it did on screen, right down to the potted plants at the doorstep. The owners have four bright and colorful hanging baskets in red, the perfect pop of color!
The hotel we saw in this movie is also located in Langley and I recognized it immediately when it showed up in the film. It is the Sandman Signature Hotel (not to be confused with the Sandman Hotel down the street) and boasts a unique front entrance. I recently dropped by and had the privilege of speaking with the Executive General Manager, Jason, who was very open and somewhat intrigued by my visit. He recalled filming of a movie around the same time Date With Love was shot and believes one of the suites was used. Upon seeing my screenshots, he agreed that it was the Sandman Signature we saw in the movie. As you can see, it looks exactly as it did on screen.

DVR ALERT: Date With Love will be airing again on Monday, August 27. Yorkson Creek Middle School is located at 20686 84 Ave. in Langley. The Sandman Signature Hotel is located at 8828 201 Street in Langley. NOTE: there is also a Sandman Hotel in Langley just a couple of blocks over. If visiting, be sure to look for the Sandman Signature Hotel on 201 Street. Porter’s Bistro Coffee & Tea House, which I wrote about here, is located in the Murrayville area of Langley. It has been featured many times on screen and continues to be a film fave. If you drop by either business, be sure to tell them you’ve scene it on Hallmark!

This was so fun, Kerry! Plus, you got a two-fer! Yay! I was so intrigued by the mystery of where the house next door was from! I love it! I’ve always enjoyed “Love by Chance,” especially the meddling Mother!
“Date With Love” is such a cute movie too… I’ve also enjoyed it because it’s a little different than the average Hallmark movie + it kind of gives me a Ferris Bueller feel. Speaking of Ferris… enjoy your Days Off and home projects!
Thank you for sharing these lovely houses… looking forward to the next location!
Blessings! Net

I don’t know what it is about some of these houses but I just get to the point where I HAVE to find them. That’s exactly what happened with this one. It was awesome to get that extra location next door, which I had also been looking for. Crazy! And the meddling mom in Love By Chance is awesome……she is a great actress and I love her in everything she does. BTW, Aurora Teagarden has filmed in the area before too. I will have to feature that sometime.
I TOTALLY agree with you on the Ferris Bueller vibe in Date With Love! And that video David made was hilarious…..and very Ferris-like. As always, thanks Net!!! 🙂

Just discovered your site. Love it! Look forward to your posts.
There used to be a site – propertyinsights.ca that you could look up specs of houses in Vancouver, but don’t think it is active anymore? However, if there is a house you want to look up specs for send me pm and I can look up for you on database I have access to.
