With fall in the air and on our screens, I thought it might be fun to feature a film location from a Fall Harvest movie and last year’s Falling for Vermont fit the bill. Starring Julie Gonzalo and Benjamin Ayers and brilliantly directed by David Winning, Falling for Vermont is one of my faves from the 2017 harvest season. From Hallmark:
“When best-selling author, Angela Young, decides to escape the media frenzy, her plan goes awry when a she’s caught in a thunderstorm and crashes her car. Found wandering with no memory and no ID, the town doctor (and a single dad) Jeff Callan, offers up his guest house until her memory returns. But as she blends seamlessly into their family life, she must decide if the life she’s been living is the life she wants”.
I loved the little town of Hopedale, Vermont and recognized it immediately as I’ve scene it before in Hallmark’s Love in Paradise. In real life, the town is called Agassiz and it is located in British Columbia, about 75 miles east of Vancouver. Last year while in the area, I stopped by to check it out and take some pictures. It was a gorgeous fall day (including falling leaves!) and I really loved the beautiful display of harvest colors, which you can see in my photos. It was somewhat deserted that day because there really isn’t anything open on Sunday, which was the day I visited.
As you will see in the following photographs, it looks very much as it did in both Falling for Vermont and Love in Paradise, aside from some changes to the paint color on a couple of the street fronts.
Falling for Vermont fans will easily recognize Jacks Restaurant, which was shown several times in the movie.
The town’s main street, Pioneer Avenue, was featured throughout the movie as the little town of Hopedale, Vermont.
Pioneer Avenue was also used in Love in Paradise, which means Mr. Luke Perry himself has walked this street!!! In both movies, you can clearly see the Agassiz Deli sign in the background.
A gazebo was built for filming of Falling for Vermont but sadly, it was taken down after filming was completed. I LOVE the double-lantern lights lining the street!!! They add such small town charm.
The bookstore we saw featured in Falling for Vermont is actually located in Aldergrove, about 42 miles away, and is the same bookery we saw in Hallmark’s At Home in Mitford. It looks just as it did on screen. Last year, I wrote a post on the Book n Bean, which you can read here.
The location of the big Harvest Festival in Falling for Vermont was filmed at Krause Berry Farm & Estate Winery in Langley, a location we have scene in many Hallmark movies including Pumpkin Pie Wars, Like Cats & Dogs, and The Sweetest Heart. For the most part, Krause’s royal blue buildings were kept out of this movie. But they did make an appearance in a scene or two, giving me just enough to recognize this location.
I was invited to attend a wedding at Krause this past summer and it was an incredible venue!!! Krause has become one of my favorite places to visit in BC. After spending time there during the summer, I continue to recognize it in so many of the movies I re-watch. And it will be making another appearance this Christmas season in the all new Hallmark movie, A Godwink Christmas/A Carousel Christmas. At some point, I am planning to interview the owners and share all about this wonderful place.
EDITED TO ADD: BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE SCREEN SHOTS AND LOOK CLOSELY AT THE SMOKE FILLED AIR. FILMING OF FALLING FOR VERMONT TOOK PLACE DURING A MAJOR WILDFIRE IN THE SUMMER OF 2017 AND IT DEFINITELY SHOWS THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE.
This Weekend:
Fall Harvest movies continue throughout the weekend on the Hallmark Channel, including the all new movie, Under the Autumn Moon, which premieres Saturday night. Check your local listing for times.
Coming Soon:
I will begin my own #CountdowntoChrismas posts, starting at the end of October. As I mentioned last month, I spent much of my summer break researching Hallmark Christmas film locations and I cannot wait to share some of my faves with you! As always, thank you for your continued support of I’ve Scene It On Hallmark. I will be back soon with an all new Hallmark location.

Kerry
Thank you so much Ruth!!! 🙂
Terri Oliver Steffes
Eek! It is beautiful! I want to have you as a guest speaker in my Christmas blog. I need to figure out how or what to do!
Kerry
Terri, Agassiz is a lovely little town, especially in the fall! I’d love to be a guest speaker…..just let me know what you need me to do! 🙂
Bonnie Condon
Where is the house located the doctors family lived in the Falling Fir Autumn movie? Thank you.
Kerry
Hi Bonnie, if you are referring to the Drs. house from Falling for Vermont, it is on my “Still looking for” list. My guess is, it is near Agassiz, or in Chilliwak or Abbotsford BC.I would love to find it!!!! 🙂
Jeff
Just a note, the gazebo, or a rebuilt copy of it, is still there. Or at least it was a week ago when I was in Agassiz. It has been moved to a corner of the park.
Kerry
Hi Jeff…..thanks for your comment and the info! That is good to know. Next time I’m in the area, I will for sure swing by to investigate. 🙂

I had to laugh,I grew up in Vermont and as I watched this movie I found myself laughing for the chatector walked by a street sigh that said, WorkBC, clearly not Vermont. I still liked the movie.
Kerry
Rose, thanks for your comment. I had to laugh with you because that WorkBC sign was useful in my finding this location. 🙂
Jeff
My other half and I are still trying to figure out where the Doctors house is as the first time you see it the water looks rather like a slough but the second time it is obviously a lake. Pretty sure it is not near Chilliwack as Cultus Lake is the only one there and the scenery does not appear to fit (unless it is at the south end). We think it may be somewhere on Harrison Lake which is near Agassiz but with the way they sometime move you never know. Abbotsford has no real lakes near it so probably not there.
Kerry
Hi Jeff, thanks for your comment! I have not looked for the Drs. house (yet 😉 ) but I agree with your assessment. I’ve not been to Cultis Lake but this house appears to be a little more remote. Could be Harrison or Harrison Mills. As you said, it really could be anywhere….LOL. If I track it down, I will let you know.
You see much filming out in Chilliwack? Crews seem to be spending more and more time there lately. I plan to feature some locations from Chilliwack in a future post. We’ve scene it several times and I think it would make a great post! 🙂
Jeff
Well, Rocky Mountain Christmas has it’s airport scene at Chilliwack Airport which is the only place I have really recognized in a Hallmark Film although I know several have had at least some scenes shot here. It’s Christmas Eve had at least some scenes filmed in Chilliwack in early 2018 as well as a Movies and Mysteries film “The Chronicle Mysteries” series or at least one of them. Unbridled Love was filmed as well in 2017 but those are the only ones I am aware of. I still have to watch these two but unless they show up on YouTube I have to keep watching W network as there is no Hallmark channel here and W only shows them infrequently except at Christmas. Just watched Love in Paradise and recognized Agassiz easily since they did not even change the names of most businesses such as Allenby’s which is a real business there.
Kerry
Jeff, yes, Rocky Mountain Christmas shot in downtown Chilliwack and I have a feeling the house/ranch could be in that area too. (just a hunch) And I did see Its Christmas, Eve shot a couple scenes there too. One movie you should be on the lookout for is A Country Wedding. They used the downtown area and I know you will recognize it. I also saw Wellington Ave show up in an episode of Signed, Sealed, Delivered From The Heart. I remember reading that Lifetime shot a Christmas movie downtown but I am unsure of the title and am still watching holiday movies from last month. Love in Paradise is one I love….I recognized it on screen. I think I may have located the ranch. I saw it pop up in an early episode of Signed, Sealed, Delivered too. Thanks for the info……I will keep my eyes open for Chilliwack in Chronicle Mysteries and Unbridled Love. 🙂
Emily
I would love, love, love to learn more about the ranch in Love in Paradise. It’s incredible! Thank you so much.
Kerry
Emily, I would love to reach out to the owners and see if I could feature it on the blog. It looks like an amazing place! 🙂
Doug Uhren
Any idea where the farm in love in paradise is located and if they offer rooms to visitors?
Kerry
Hi Doug! I believe I have located the property but have not confirmed that yet. IF it is the ranch from the movie, then it is on private property and not open to visitors. There seems to be a lot of interest in this ranch…….I will look into it this year and see if I can feature it in an upcoming story. 🙂
Jeff
Just watched Rocky Mountain Christmas and this time easily recognized several locations in downtown Chilliwack. Was sad to hear about Luke Perry’s passing this year as I enjoyed Love in Paradise.
Kerry
Yes, downtown Chilliwack was used in Rocky Mountain Christmas. And it is starting to show up more and more on Hallmark and Lifetime movies!!! I am still shocked that Luke Perry is no longer with us. Such a loss; he was so talented and from what I have read, very down to earth and humble.
Pierre DESCHUYTENEER
Hi Kerry,
Throughout the film “Falling for Vermont”, there are small trees (+/- 7 feet – 2m tall) with tortuous multi-trunks and flamboyant orange leaves star-shaped with 5 lobes.
These wonderful little trees are planted most often in large pots, but also in the ground, (f.e. near the gazebo).
As you know this area (me not… I live in Belgium – Europe), can you help me to determine what these little trees are? I did not find anything on the Internet (not even a simple photo) , despite long searches.
I first tought that they could be sugar maples, but these are 100 feet (30 m) tall. Wow.
Many thanks and greetings from here.
Kerry
Hi Pierre, welcome! It is always such an honor to hear from people near and far. I will have to take a closer look at the trees in the film and do some digging. I am going to need some time to follow up on this, ok? Interesting question…..and thanks! 🙂
Victoria Morasci
Do you know where the house the doctor lived in is located and if’s it’s available for rental?
Kerry
Hi Victoria, thanks for your comment. That location is on my “still looking for” list. I’d LOVE to find it! 🙂
